Do I matter to God ?

When I contemplate the sky, the work of your hands, the moon and the stars which you have placed there, I say : What is man, that you may remember him, and the son of man, for you to take care of him ? Psalm 8: 4,5

Astrophysicists estimate that the cosmos contains 100 to 1,000 billion galaxies, some of which are located 15 billion light years away. Each galaxy has around 200 billion stars. The sun is just a star in our galaxy, the Milky Way, and therefore Earth is just a grain of sand in the universe. In the face of these gigantic numbers and dimensions which are beyond comprehension, what is man that God takes care of ? Do I matter to God ?

If I am discouraged, overcome by the feeling that I am worth nothing, if I am despised, if I am crushed at the thought that nothing is going anymore, I will remember that God intervened before I was born : I was only a shapeless mass, but your eyes saw me, and on your book were written, all the days that were intended for me before one of them existed ! (Psalm 139:16).

I will remember David, the last of the family left in the fields to tend the sheep on a day of sacrifice (1 Samuel 16). God had chosen him from among his seven brothers to make him the king of Israel.

I will remember the promises of God and I will appropriate them with faith : I will teach you the way of wisdom, I will guide you in the ways of righteousness. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and if you run, you will not flinch (Proverbs 4:11,12).

I will remember that Jesus came to our earth. He is like that shepherd who leaves a whole flock to look for the one sheep that has gone astray. Jesus healed lepers, the outcasts of society. He delivered one by one of the demon possessed men and women. He gave sight to a blind man from birth condemned to begging. He healed a paralyzed man who had no one to help him at the Bethesda pool. He turned the life of a Samaritan woman into a messy life. He gave courage to the disciples during a storm on Lake Galilee...

Do I Matter to Anyone ? Yes, the Lord is interested in me! He loves me personally. The proof ? The Son of God... loved me and... gave himself for me (Galatians 2:20).
