Do not be a christian "weathervane"

"This is why we must attach ourselves more to the things we have heard, lest we be swept away from them, for if the word announced by angels has had its effect, and if any transgression and all disobedience has received a just retribution, how shall we escape by neglecting such a great salvation, which, first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard it." Hebrews 2.1-3

Have you ever seen a small child holding the string of a helium balloon suddenly escape it and see it flying away in the sky ? It's hard for little hands to hold a string. It slides easily and that's often what happens !

Christians who casually let the foundations of their faith be swept away from them become shaky believers.

Hebrews 2.1 says that the foundations of the gospel can be taken away from believers if they do not deliberately hang on to it! The word being carried away means that you let something go carelessly. Christians who casually let the foundations of their faith be swept away from them become shaky believers. I like to call them "weathervanes".

Weathervanes sometimes go to church, but more often than not, they find an excuse not to go. Weathervanes read one thing in the Word of God and then wonder if God really thinks it. Weathervanes say what they feel rather than what the Word of God says.

An action for today

Seek your words from the Father through the Holy Spirit and His Word ; then hold fast to the Word of God and you will be steadfast. You will not be a Christian "weather vane" ! You will be stable, strong and victorious !
