Do not go further !
"Before, I didn't recognize my wrongs, I complained all day, and my strength was going away." Psalm 32. 3
Do you keep hidden deep inside you a secret sin that eats at you ? Do you refuse to face the demons of your past ? This is what David did one day and he lived through hell ! After committing adultery with Batchéba, he managed to kill her husband so that he could marry her. But then everything came crashing down around him and he cried : “I feel totally guilty !” Why do sincere believers feel unable to free themselves from their sins ? Because they have adopted erroneous beliefs that always push them a little deeper into their suffering! See if any of these rationales apply to you :
1- The disastrous consequences of my life are only the result of chance. They have nothing to do with the choices I have made in the past.
2- God is endowed with too much love and too forgiving to allow the situation to get worse. How could He let me suffer just to force me to renounce my sin ?
3- The pleasure I get from enjoying what others might call a sin is a hundred times more valid than the feeling I would get from giving it up ! Anyway my sin does not hurt anyone.
4- I can't help it, that's how I am ! The origin of this little problem lies in my childhood. Why would God discipline me instead of giving me His grace ?
5- Committing a sin does not prevent me from serving God. After all, God did use notorious tricksters to accomplish His purposes.
6- Anyway it's not really a sin ! It's a trait of my personality that doesn't fit with the rest. Do you realize what you are saying ? “Sin does not matter. God really won't mind. I love my sin too much to give it up. I convinced myself that I couldn't stop. Even if I continue to sin, I will still serve God to the best of my ability. My sin is not really one, it is only a small error of course." But look the truth in the face once and for all, cast off the lies you've made up that hold you prisoner to your suffering and keep you from walking the path of repentance. Yes, what you need today is to repent and make a decision to forsake your sin. The moment you do this God will forgive you and the weight of remorse that weighs you down will disappear forever.
