Have you ever been asked the following question : “How long have you been a Christian ?” And you said : “I have always been a Christian. I was born into a Christian family.” To assert that, isn’t that a lie ? No one is born a Christian. We are sinners by nature and born in evil, as the psalmist says so well. Shane Pruitt says : "Of the 7.5 billion people on earth, not a single one has had the privilege of being born a Christian !" DL Moody clarified : “We are all born with our backs turned to God !” For “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Likewise your parents, grandparents or other acquaintances can in no way guarantee that you will become a Christian, even if they are part of the family of God. We are not born into this family, but we are reborn as a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17). This is what Jesus called “the new birth,” the necessary step to enter into this family. Your attendance at a local church, the emotional value of your testimony, however beautiful, the sincerity of your generosity, none of these will make you a Christian, that is, a disciple of Jesus Christ. A number of people live this same lie week after week. They are not born again, they are content to believe that their salvation depends in spite of everything on their good behavior, whereas only faith can save you from the bonds of sin : “God, indeed, did not send His Son. in the world to judge the world, but for the world to be saved by Him. Whoever believes in Him is not judged” (John 3. 17-18). Shane Pruitt concludes : “You were certainly not always a Christian, but you always needed to know Christ !” Understanding and accepting that you are a sinner and that only divine grace can set you free from sin will transform your life. From lying, you will have passed to the truth !
