"For there is a future, and your hope will not be destroyed." Proverbs 23.18 and 24.14
The title of the thought of this day is not to get us into sterile speculations about the future, nor to worry us with negative assumptions about what could happen ... But rather to get us out this way of thinking which consists of viewing the future as a logical continuation of our past.
"Do not let your past dictate the thought of what tomorrow will be."
Many people have experienced traumas from childhood. Some have grown up in unstructured families ; fear and fear were constant elements that marked the first years of their lives. When they reach adulthood, they think that their future will always be marked by this painful past. They think that with the past they have known, they will never know a happy future. Such thoughts poison their existence. They do not envision a future different from this past in which they lock themselves.
Perhaps you recognize yourself in this quick chart ? Perhaps you are going through hard times right now : you are contemplating the future with the anxiety of living tomorrow what you knew yesterday ... But I would like to say with confidence : "Think of tomorrow considering the promises of God for you, enter a new way of thinking the next day, believe that the best is before you, leave it to God to speak to you about your future by sticking to its promises."
Why did the Israelites turn for 40 years in the desert when it was enough for a dozen days to go from Egypt to Canaan ? Because they thought of their future according to their past servitude. They thought that the giants of Canaan would defeat them, and make them slaves. They believed that their future would be like their past.
Sometimes we go around in circles for years. Why ? Because we let our past format our thoughts on tomorrow.
Today is the day when you can think of your future, not with the failures and tragedies of yesterday, but with faith in whoever is with you.
A decision for today
"Lord, I decide not to let my painful past influence me in my thoughts for what tomorrow will be ... With you, I confess that the best is before me."
