Do you know your real identity ? (1)

"It is no longer I who live, it is Christ who lives in me." Galatians 2. 20

Knowing your true identity is important. Many of us identify with our jobs, careers, social status, not realizing that this is not our true identity. They look like the circus elephants you see before the show, standing on a grassy aisle next to the circus tent, held up by a simple chain attached to a stake in the ground. Although endowed with a force capable of freeing them in seconds, they remain put because they have been conditioned from an early age to obey as soon as they feel the weight of a chain around their paw. Tamers have made them forget who they really are, to the point that it is very rare to see an elephant break free and run away. Too many Christians are thus held back by bonds that they often do not understand which prevent them from acting under the power of the Holy Spirit. “They don't need a deliverance cult,” as Tony Evans puts it, “but identity check !” They need to discover their true identity in Christ. If God has saved us and set us free from sin, it is not to then let us fall under the sway of Satan. Paul wrote to the Galatians : “I have been crucified with Christ ; it is no longer I who live, it is Christ who lives in me; and what I now live in my body, I live in faith in the Son of God who loved me and who gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). Before our conversion we had an identity based on our job, our social status, the way we dress, the relationships we had... but a new identity was given to us the day we became a new person. However, maintaining two opposing identities is impossible. To become what we are today, children of God and joint heirs of the Kingdom with Christ, our previous identity must be revoked. Crucifying our former self, our old nature would say Paul, is the only radical way to effect this rebirth with Christ. The cross is, so to speak, the office where we exchange our old ID card for a new one !
