Does something missing in my faith ?

"Praying night and day very urgently that we may see your face and make up for what is lacking in your faith." 1 Thessalonians. 3. 10

The young church in Thessaloniki is truly alive. While these believers go through the persecution, Paul receives from Timothy good news of their faith and love : not only do they remain faithful to the teaching of the Christian faith, but they also manifest the virtue of love (1 Thes. 3. 6).

However, despite these excellent news, Paul wishes to go to Thessalonica to complete what is lacking in their faith. What was missing ? We shall learn it by this letter. Paul does not wait to see them again to fill their gaps, he writes to them. It is a blessing for us, because his teaching answers our questions.

The Thessalonians knew by Paul that "God had called them to his own kingdom and to his own glory" (2:12). They knew that "the day of the Lord is coming" (5: 2), that is to say, the day of his appearance in power to reign. But they did not know how God would associate with the triumph of Jesus their brothers who had died from natural death or martyrdom. Something was really missing from their faith.

Paul explains to them the great event which must necessarily precede that royal triumph, that is, the resurrection of the dead in Christ (4: 15-18), their union with the "living" and the abduction of All to "meet the Lord, in the air." All this is "the Lord Himself" who will realize it when he comes down from heaven with powerful signs of authority (4:16). This hope was a great encouragement for them and for us today (4:18). This is an example of how Scripture, the word of God, serves as an indispensable basis for our faith.

One more word. Paul supplements what is lacking in their faith by revealing to them their own abduction and the resurrection of believers. He seizes the opportunity to return to the foundations of faith, without which nothing is possible : the death and resurrection of Jesus by which he has conquered sin and death (4:14).

Is there something wrong with my faith ? Do I have questions that disrupt me ? So I want to remember that one of the great purposes of the ministry of the Word is to help me grow in the "grace and knowledge" of my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 3.18).
