Does the truth exist ?

Jesus answered : […] Whoever is of the truth hears my voice. Pilate said to him : What is the truth ? John 18.37-38

Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect who presided over Jesus' trial and ordered his crucifixion, is the spokesperson for disillusioned skeptics and unbelievers. When the Lord mentioned the truth, he replied : "What is truth ?". Those who think that there is no such thing as absolute truth, or that if there is one it cannot be known, pride themselves on doubting.

However, divine truth is indeed absolute. Here are some biblical insights on this vast subject : God is the God of truth (Isaiah 65.16) who cannot lie. Jesus, who claimed to be the truth, is full of truth and always speaks the truth. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth (John 14:17) who inspired the Bible and who leads its readers to the truth. We have to cling to the precious good of truth : Acquire truth, and wisdom, instruction, and discernment, and do not let go of it (Proverbs 23:23).

Let us close our ears to Satan, the father of lies, who strives to prevent sinners from understanding and believing the truth. Instead, let us choose to listen to the voice of the true God revealed in Jesus Christ. We will leave the swamp of our doubts, uncertainties and false beliefs and build our lives on the unshakeable rock of truth.
