Don't embarrass Jesus !

“He (Jesus) was tempted in every way like us, but without sinning.” Hebrews 4:15

Can our attitudes, words or actions cause embarrassment to Jesus, our Lord and Master ? Didn't He suffer during His years on this earth from the reactions of some people towards Him ? Beginning with Joseph and Mary, when He was 12 years old and they returned to seek Him in the temple while He was discussing with the best scholars of the scriptures. Listen : “When his parents saw him, they were amazed, and his mother said to him : My child, why have you done this to us ?” (Luke 2. 48). Didn't He feel embarrassed to be called out like this in public ? And when He announced in His own city that He really was the Messiah and that His neighbors and friends, those that He had spent His childhood with stood up to take Him to the edge of a cliff to force Him to jump ? He accepted mockery and doubt, listened without responding to gibes, like the day He told Jairus that his daughter was only asleep, causing laughter from those present in the room (Matthew 9:24). At the start of His trial, “the high priest asked Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching. Jesus answered him : “... Why are you asking me questions ? Ask those who have heard me about what I have told them; they know what I have said” (John 18. 19, 21), which earned Him a slap from a guard. Certainly He was going to suffer much more cruel mockery from the Roman soldiers. But these were strangers. How must Jesus have felt when the high priest asked Him about His disciples ? Where had they been ? Judas had betrayed Him for a few pieces of silver, Peter was in the courtyard denying Him, and the others except John had run away to save their lives. What light could they shed on the teaching of Jesus, since Jesus found himself alone before His accusers ? Let us ask ourselves today the question : do our behavior, our words correspond to the teaching of Jesus or, on the contrary, are they a source of embarrassment for Him ?
