Don't irritate your children !

Colossians 3:21 - Fathers, do not anger your children, lest they be discouraged.

Educating children is far from easy ! If “fathers” have a right to expect submission from their children (Colossians 3:20), our verse shows that they also have a duty to them.

How can we irritate our children ? The greatest irritation is probably going to come from a feeling of injustice. When a child is preferred over others, or conversely when a child is looked down upon in relation to others. When the eldest child is too quickly made responsible, when the time for recklessness is stolen from him. Conversely, when the child is too cocooned and cannot take off. When the child is unjustly punished or when the punishment is not proportionate. When the child is neglected because of the service of God. When he is frustrated with the affection he has a right to expect. When his efforts to do well are neither recognized nor rewarded. When... the list can be long !

Parents, I invite you to probe yourselves. The bad relationship that has developed between you and your child is not always your responsibility, but you may realize that you have irritated him. Don't get stuck behind the fact that he has to be submissive. If the Holy Spirit calls you, take the step of repentance towards your child even if it is young. You will be able by your gesture to stop the process of destruction of filial love.

Our God is the perfect example and He took the first step of reconciliation with the rebel by giving his Son on the cross.
