Earthquake

Jesus uttered a loud cry again, and gave up his spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth quaked, the rocks were split, the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had died were raised. Matthew 27:50-52

There was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled away the stone, and sat on it. Matthew 28:2

On Saturday, February 22, 2003, around 9:42 p.m., the inhabitants located within a radius of 400 kilometers around St-Dié (in the east of France) were surprised by the strong tremor of an earthquake. I was in bed, my wife was listening to a gospel program on the radio, the neighbors were watching TV, others were arguing, others were reading a novel, but others were praying and reading the Bible. The walls were shaking ominously, so that everyone who felt the jolt straightened up, each fearing that the house would not resist.

At the time of the death of the Lord, when he returns his spirit to God, the earth quakes and the rocks split. The death of Jesus Christ, who came in the flesh, is the most solemn moment in human history.

At the time of his resurrection, three days later, there was a great earthquake and the angel rolled away the stone that closed the tomb, as if to say to the world : Christ is risen.

These two earthquakes, one linked to the death of the Lord and the other to his resurrection, made me think of the coming of the Lord Jesus. It is not written that an earthquake will take place at the moment of the resurrection of the dead in Christ and the rapture of all of us. But I think we will all be surprised in our occupations like this Saturday evening in February.

In the meantime, the Lord asks me, and you too, to watch and pray.

To watch is to remain in a state of expectation, ready to leave at any moment. It is also to make my love abound for the one I will meet and see face to face.

To pray is to maintain without shadow, without restraint, the relationship established between God and me. This is why relationships with my brothers and sisters in Christ must be imbued with the love and grace of God.

Let us always be delighted and encouraged at the thought of his soon return.
