Enter into his call !

Exodus 4:24 and 25 – During the journey, in a place where Moses spent the night, the Lord attacked him and wanted to kill him. Zipporah took a sharp stone, cut off her son's foreskin, and threw him at Moses' feet, saying : "You are a husband of blood to me !".

For many, we know the story of Moses and the call he received to the burning bush and what a call : to become the liberator of the Hebrew people. We then travel with him through the writings of Exodus and would probably like to be this modern-day Moses for our generation. We see his exploits, the red sea that opens in front of him, his dynamism as a leader, but for the verse quoted above, I am not sure that we will dwell on it for a long time.

However, it is of capital importance, and if the call of Moses could be realized, it is because an act of obedience to God was carried out. Without this act, Moses would never have become the liberator wanted by God. For what ? Moses had not circumcised his child ! We can think it was negligence or maybe he just didn't want to offend Zipporah, who was not Jewish. In short, whether through negligence or complacency, the fact is that he had not obeyed the prescriptions of his God.

Entering fully into the call of God will always require acts of obedience to the Word of God. Oh, God is not going to ask you to circumcise yourself or to circumcise your child, but what He asks of each one of us is to accept the circumcision of our heart.

Circumcision was and still is considered an act of purification. Colossians 2:11 tells us : “And in him you were circumcised with a circumcision which no hand made, but with the circumcision of Christ, which is the stripping of the body of flesh.” However, this requires acceptance on our part.

God also tells us in His Word : “If you cleave to Me, I will answer you, and you will stand before Me. If you separate what is precious from what is base, you will be like my mouth” (Jeremiah 15:19). Yes, if we separate what is precious from what is vile, we will be his mouth as Moses was the mouth of God before Pharaoh. Do we want to enter into God's call for our lives ? Let us first recognize that we need to live the circumcision of our torturous heart, that we have a deep need to attach ourselves to God and to obey Him, separating what is precious from what is vile.

I pray that the Holy Spirit will enlighten each of us now and show us the areas of our lives that need to be cleared up and in which it is up to us to decide.
