Eternal value

But God said to him : Fool ! This very night your soul will be asked for again ; and what you have prepared, for whom will it be ? Luke 12:20

In 1988, a maritime expedition located the wreck of the steamboat SS Central America at a depth of 2,134 m. Around the wreck, more than 11 tons of gold littered the seabed ! In 1857, this 85-meter-long steel ship (to which it seemed as though she could be forgiven without fear) left Panama for New York. On board were 578 passengers, most of them returning from the infamous California Gold Rush. Off South Carolina, a violent hurricane hit them. The ship, too loaded with passengers and goods, sank on September 12... The crew had time to place the women and children on the few rowboats available. 425 people died ! A man of the crew, who was carrying the women in the last boat, had seen men taking out their gold, lamenting : "There is no longer any hope of salvation for us, our gold is of no use to us, we are all going to perish...”

As in the parable Jesus told (Proposed reading), men proposes, but God alone disposes ! In the presence of God, gold is of no use on the Day of Judgment... Only the righteousness of Christ which clothes the believer has value ! Let us place our trust in Christ crucified and risen. He is our only salvation, precious and eternal.
