Even for children of children
But the mercy of the Lord endures from everlasting to everlasting to those who fear him, and his righteousness endureth to the children of their children. Psalm 103.17
Anyone who is aware of his limitations, weaknesses and faults, can only desperately thirst for God's forgiveness. There are few Psalms that use such vivid images as Psalm 103 to express the size of God's love for the sinner who comes to him repentant.
What strikes me right now is also the responsibility that rests on us as parents for our children and grandchildren. For the goodness of God is also for them forever, but on condition that we fear him.
If we have understood that to fear God is to obey him, we know that not wanting to honor him by obeying his commandments is not only depriving us of his goodness, but depriving our children and theirs of it.
Have we thought about this ? We are too inclined to think that our attitude towards God is our business, and we forget that the attitude of our children is likely to depend on it. They will hear about him, will know that they are loved by him. They will live by it and communicate it to others for the happiness of all... to the probable extent that we ourselves will have chosen to listen to him, to follow him and to obey him.
We who say we are ready for all sacrifices to ensure the happiness of our children, do not sacrifice it out of spiritual indifference.
