Everything, at all times

"My soul, bless the Lord ! And all that is within me, bless his holy name !" Psalm 103. 1

"I will bless the Lord at all times ; his praise will be continually in my mouth. My soul will boast in the LORD ; the good-humored will hear it, and rejoice. Magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together." Psalm 34: 1-3

Bless God with all his being, express gratitude and adoration in all circumstances ... How is this possible ? Yet this is what these verses invite us to.

One can easily, of course, find reasons to bless God. There is, in us, something that recognizes his greatness, his goodness, his benefits. But does "everything inside me" bless him spontaneously ? Or are there, rather, areas of darkness, topics not to be discussed with him because we do not agree with his will ? I do not speak here of people who have exceptional suffering, and to whom we do not have to give lessons. But each of us can wonder what he does not want to let go for God ...

Another reality from the second verse quoted is the permanence of faith, expressed with these words: "at all times". One could say : "in all weathers" ! How difficult it is! When one is down at the side of the road, it is difficult to bless the Lord. When it's raining too, or when we're sad, or when we're in pain. It should, however. Not as a feat to be accomplished, reserved for the strongest, but as an act of faith (Acts 16. 24, 25). "His praise will be continually in my mouth".

How is it possible ? Our will intervenes, it commands the soul to bless the Lord, it decides to praise it continually. And faith focuses on the person of God ; there she feeds on her virtues, her perfection, her love ... Our feelings can vary greatly, because of the circumstances or our mood. But the love and promises of God do not vary.

That, brothers and sisters, we can test it at every moment of our lives. From now on, just finishing this reading ... Our natural personality can not. But the new nature sensitive to the action of the Spirit can ! She can, for example, every morning when she gets up, say : "I will bless the Lord at all times".
