Everything is fine !

2 Kings 4.23 -… She answered : “Everything is fine !".

This answer is perhaps the finest statement of faith we can find in the Word of God. The woman who spoke it was a Shunammite, barren, but for whom the prophet Elisha had prophesied the birth of a child. And indeed, the child had come into the world but some time later, suffering from headaches, he died in his mother's arms.

When her husband asked the reason for her hasty desire to go to the prophet, she made this statement to him : “Everything is fine !". Her child was dead, lying on a bed, her heart must have been in pieces but, instead of considering what her eyes and senses could see, far from sinking into despair and panic, she affirmed her "faith" and I imagine that she thought that God could turn the situation, however dramatic, through his servant Elisha.

What is the observation that our eyes, our senses and our logic make about our life today ? This “reality” pushes us to say : “Everything is going badly !". If we stick to these factors alone, it seems true ; sometimes everything seems to us definitively "dead", lost and irremediable.

Faith has a completely different outlook because it does not let itself be stopped by this first observation. She keeps her eyes open on "spiritual realities" and in particular these : God is on his throne, He reigns and He is able to remedy the irremediable. The Shunammite is not lying when she says : “Everything is fine !". This is not Coué method positivism but it is a demonstration of what is not yet visible but which is part of the realities of our Heavenly Father (Hebrews 11.1).

We know that in difficult times it takes a grace from God to make this kind of statement, but let us be encouraged by the rest of the story : Elisha moved and the child came back to life.

No matter how dark your situation is, turn to the Creator of the universe and put your faith into action. Call on Him and ask Him for this grace, He will act for sure. Let yourself be penetrated by these words of Isaiah 41.10 : “Do not be afraid, for I am with you ; do not cast anxious glances, for I am your God ; I strengthen you, I come to your aid, I support you with my triumphant right hand". Everything is fine !
