Fake or good news ?

Thursday March 3, 2022

They lightly heal the wound of the daughter of my people : Peace ! Peace ! they say. And there is no peace. Jeremiah 8. 11

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace ! From him who brings good news, who publishes salvation! Isaiah 52.7

Fake or good news ?

Recent crises have been marked by many uncertainties. Social networks and other media have, as a result, conveyed their floods of sometimes false information, and abounded in debates often devoid of nuances. Certainly, there is nothing new. However, the phenomenon has taken on a new dimension, thanks to the means of communication which give them increased visibility. This fuels growing skepticism.

At the same time, social networks and the media offer so many opportunities to spread the rare good news ! Now, in a society which has made health a supreme value and which is governed in its choices by the fear of dying, the gospel is, more than ever, the good news, a message of life and hope. And more than a message, it is a person whom the gospel makes known to us : God who came to share our human condition in Jesus. The good news brought by this messenger was paid with the price of his life. It was by his death that he was able to render "impotent him who had the power of death, that is to say the devil", and to free "all those who, for fear of death, were all their lives held in bondage" (Hebrews 2:14, 15). Pilate asked Jesus this topical question : "What is truth ?" The answer was in Jesus alone, the one to whom he asked it (John 18.38; 14.6). So, fear of death or hope ? Desire to control our health at all costs or trust in the One who holds our destinies in his hand (Psalm 31. 15) ?

In the flow of uncertain information, know how to capture this vital message !
