Follow the compass

"Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light on my path." Psalms 119.105

Even when it seems ridiculous, the man has this annoying tendency to persist and to believe that he is right, that his way of seeing is necessarily better than that of others, which is not without consequences.

Use the Bible in the crossing of our life.

Look what happened to these three young people when they decided to cross an estuary by boat :

"- Take the compass," said the father.

- Useless, answers the elder. We know the direction !"

However, on a new order from his father, he obeys.

Shortly after departure, the boat is in full fog. His young driver does not worry about the compass, he is too sure of himself. The crossing is however longer than expected. Finally, he confusedly sees trees, a house, and he approaches ... to realize that he has returned exactly to the starting point. What to do ? All confused, the three young people leave but this time they consult a compass. In this way, if they drift again, they will rectify immediately.

The experience served. From that moment, the boat goes in the desired direction. The thicker the fog, the more the pilot relies on what the compass indicates. Soon, finally, the young people are on the other side.

Our compass is the Bible, the word of God. Wanting to do without is presumptuous. Nothing is more useful than to possess it. But to possess it without wanting to use it can only lead to drifting. God, who is our Father, recommends that we bring it along and use it as we go through our lives.

Likewise, having a flashlight for a night run is not enough. It is still necessary to light it and not to look away from the indications it gives.

Get the Bible, if you do not have one. But above all, read it day by day and let yourself be instructed by what it reveals and teaches. It's vital, in the true sense of the word, for you !

A prayer for today

I need you, Lord, to consider your word as a definite guide for me. May my thoughts be renewed every day by reading it, to rectify what is still bad and to continue this path with you to reach the end.
