Foolish !

Foolish !

A rich man's land had brought in a lot. And he reasoned within himself, saying : What shall I do ? because I have no room to squeeze my crop. This is what I will do, he said : I will break down my barns, and build larger ones, and store up all the harvest and all my possessions therein ; and I will say to my soul, you have much goods in store for many years; rest, eat, drink, and rejoice. But God said to him : Foolish ! this very night your soul will be asked for again. Luke 12: 16-20

How well this man has done ! His professional success allows him to live a few beautiful years in the enjoyment of all his wealth. He can buy pretty much whatever he wants: huge fields, a nice house, a 4 x 4 car, etc. Isn't this the dream of the human heart ? And yet, many of our compatriots do not manage to earn even what is necessary, because there are more and more poor people, especially in the cities.

But this man hardly cares about these “left behind”. He is centered on himself. He never thinks of helping others, for money makes the heart hard and selfish. Even less does he ask himself the question of how God wants him to dispose of his great possessions : is it not his money ? Anyone can congratulate this man on his success, the appreciation of God is quite different. He calls him a foolish !

By coming to earth, the Lord made the opposite choice. He left the glory of heaven, where everything was at his disposal, to take care of a humanity in the greatest spiritual misery : You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ : for you he became poor while 'he was rich, that by his poverty you might be enriched (2 Corinthians 8: 9).

You don't have to wait until I'm at the head of a fortune to wonder if I deserve this foolish title. I must, from today, be a good administrator of the goods that God, in his goodness, places at my disposal. The Lord will show me his thoughts if I consult him with righteousness in the management of my family budget.
