Foolish

In March 2018, Mike Hughes, an American autodidact, propelled himself to an altitude of 571 meters in the Mojave Desert, California, with a rocket of his manufacture. His goal ? Prove that the earth is flat, and make sure of it with your own eyes. "Insane", you might say... Satellites, the occurrence of lunar eclipses and all current observation means confirm that it is spherical, which has been known for a long time !

This word "insane" can mean "who has lost the meaning" or even "contrary to common sense". It is found several times in the Bible. For example, the Word of God declares a fool who says in his heart : "There is no God" (Psalm 14. 1). "Indeed, the invisible perfections of God, his eternal power and his divinity, are seen since the creation of the world, they are understood by what he did. They are therefore inexcusable" (Romans 1:20). This means that nature, with its beauty and complexity, is clear proof of the existence of God : he gives it to everyone.

Jesus also qualifies someone who has accumulated wealth as foolish. "Fool ! This very night your soul will be asked for again, and what you have prepared, will it be for it ?" (Luke 12.20). One day we will have to give up all our material goods, but also meet God. Whoever does not prepare for this deadline is foolish. Let us listen to what the Bible tells us : "It is the Lord who gives wisdom ; it is out of his mouth that knowledge and understanding come out" (Proverbs 2. 6).
