Foolish ? Why ?
My soul, you have a lot of goods in store for many years to rest, eat, drink and rejoice. Luke 12:19
The harvests were excellent. There is enough for a long time. So, instead of wanting more and more, our man decides to have a good time. Isn't he a wise man compared to so many perpetually dissatisfied people eager to amass more ?
Yet God said to him : Fool ! This very night your soul will be asked for again ; and what you have prepared, for whom will it be ? In his calculations, there had been no room for God.
When God is left out, even the seemingly wisest attitude is foolishness.
Often times, humans make an even worse calculation. Not only does it take neither death nor eternity into account, but also, it accumulates, builds its existence on piled up stocks, on a wealth of which it is its sole obsession. He thus builds his eternal misfortune. What is more, it passes, today, here below, alongside real life and real joys, those which arise from sharing and fraternity.
Do not wait until it is too late to learn that we are only passing through here; that we need each other; that everything we enjoy comes to us from God and should be deeply appreciated; that only Jesus can impart true wisdom to us and enable us to become messengers of genuine love.
