My soul, you have many goods in store for several years ; rest, eat, drink and be merry. Luke 12.19
Foolish ? Why ?
The harvests were excellent. There's enough for quite a while. So, instead of wanting more and more, our man decides to have a good time. Is he not a wise man compared to so many perpetually dissatisfied people, eager to amass more ?
Yet God said to him : Fool ! This very night your soul will be demanded of you ; and what you have prepared, for whom will it be ? In his calculations, there had been no room for God.
When God is left out, even the seemingly wisest attitude is foolishness.
Very often, man makes an even worse calculation. Not only does he take neither death nor eternity into account, but he accumulates, builds his existence on accumulated stocks, on a wealth which he makes his sole obsession. He thus constructs his eternal misfortune. Even more, today, here on earth, he misses out on true life and true joys, those that are born from sharing and fraternity.
Do not wait until it is too late to learn that we are only passing through here ; that we need each other ; that everything we enjoy comes to us from God and should be deeply grateful ; that only Jesus can communicate true wisdom to us and enable us to become messengers of authentic love.
