Formidable anger

He who sits in heaven laughs, the Lord laughs at them (his enemies). Then he speaks to them in his anger, he terrifies them in his fury. Psalm 2:4,5

Today is still the time of salvation. Jesus is announced to men as the only way to be saved. Those who believe that his sacrifice is fully sufficient to wash away their sins become children of God ; their happiness is to know Jesus, to believe him and to enjoy the blessings that flow from his work on the cross.

Christians know God as Father; through Jesus, their Savior, their Lord, their intercessor and their advocate with the Father, they turn to God with the assurance of being loved and heard. Christians also know that the present time is also the opportunity that God gives him to announce around him the salvation offered to all men so that they too may become children of God.

But it is soon the end of the period of grace ; God alone knows the day. The Lord Jesus himself comes to seek his own to take them to himself (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Suddenly, everything will be turned upside down ! Once the Church is taken up, unbelievable trials will fall upon those who have refused the grace of God and the price paid for a salvation they have despised. The rulers of the world, led by Satan, will unite in a widespread revolt against God and Jesus Christ. Then the verse mentioned above will be fulfilled : the Lord will mock them (an expression that evokes the helplessness of his enemies) and terrify them !

Can you imagine the effects of the Almighty's wrath unleashed against man ? The Bible gives a glimpse of the terror which will then take hold of all men : The kings of the earth, the great, the military leaders, the rich, the powerful, all the slaves and the free men hid in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains. And they said to the mountains and to the rocks of the mountains, Fall on us and hide us from him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb. Indeed, the great day of his wrath has come, and who can resist ? (Revelation 6:15-17). These scenes are thrilling, especially as these trials will lead the hardened unbelievers to eternal death.

More than ever, it is time to implore men : Be reconciled with God ! (2 Corinthians 5:20).
