Free from our chains !

By midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing praises to God, and the prisoners were listening. Acts of the Apostles 16.25

A 40-year-old woman who had used drugs for years before discovering Christ shared with me that after her conversion, her break with addictions had had its ups and downs. One day, in tears and on her knees, she cried out to God as she remembered this episode during which Paul and Silas, in prison, had prayed and praised God. Their approach inspired her and the peace of God came to strengthen her powerfully. She therefore forced herself to live this discipline in her daily moments of meditation.

The prisons in which we are locked up can be of a material, physical nature, as was the case with the apostles. But they can also take on other realities : moral, spiritual, psychic. The young woman practicing divination, whom Paul had just met in Philippi, lived this form of alienation, a slave of greedy masters and under demonic influence (Acts of the Apostles 16:16-19). The apostle himself, on the road to Damascus, was imprisoned in a sterile religiosity. Blinded spiritually and, soon, physically before being set free in each of these areas by Christ (Acts 9:1-20).

May the Holy Spirit enlighten the eyes of our hearts so that we may grasp by faith the liberation brought by the Gospel !
