Free gift !

Romans 6:23 :… the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This is, without question, the subject of our faith : while we deserve nothing, Christ died for the forgiveness of our sins so that we may inherit eternal life. Somewhere, this immense grace should push us, in our turn, to offer free of charge what is within our reach.

I am not talking here about giving up just remuneration for work done, which is quite normal even in Christian circles. No, I want to talk about knowing how to give of your time, your talents... when we have nothing to gain from it. Would we be polluted by the notion of “win win” ?

Indeed, and this is human, when we are asked something, our first instinct is to ask the question : "But what is it for me ?" Once the analysis has been completed, we find all possible excuses not to offer the time or expression of talent requested. This is why so many plans of God are aborted.

The Jewish people are often criticized for being rich, but do you know that the Jewish community is very united and that they practice the Word of God which says not to lend with interest (Exodus 22:25) ? Ultimately, the bottom line is that everyone wins.

Unfortunately the Christian people have great difficulty in assimilating this fundamental principle : "Give, and it will be given to you" (Luke 6.38). Rather, our principle is : "If I win anything, I will give". Let’s be clear, I’m not talking about money here, I’m talking about serving others so that the Kingdom of God can advance.

In the majority of cases, when someone asks for a "helping hand" from a person who has a certain competence in a field, which could easily supplement it, the answer is negative, when there is an answer because very often, it 'is the silence...

If the Lord Jesus is to be our example : He always answered those who astonished him. Next to his, our diary looks like a postage stamp. Shall we regain the priority of "doing to others what we would like to be done" (Matthew 7:12).

Good reflection.
