Free yourself from fear

Searching the Scriptures

I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked. Genesis 3.10

The first feeling that Adam and Eve had when they broke the divine order was fear ; this is what Adam expresses when God calls him. This Bible story shows the connection between fear and feelings of guilt.

Do you know the songwriters Thierry Ostrini and Chris Christensen ? They wrote and composed this wonderful song : "Free from our chains, we walk towards you. Your sovereign hand strengthens our steps..." This beautiful hymn ends with this proclamation : "Let us banish fear, let us sing his victory, Jesus is winner".

The reason I remembered this song is because one of the most stubborn chains in our lives is the chain of fear. In Proverb 29.25, it is written : "It is a snare to tremble before men."

Maybe this is the feeling you are having right now. This feeling, like a net that traps you, locks your soul in fear. Receive this good news : Jesus came to free you from this stifling bond. Again and again, Jesus pronounces this word in the Gospels : "Do not be afraid" (John 6:20).

Are you afraid to testify ? It happened to an apostle ! Remember that when Jesus was arrested, Peter was afraid to tell a humble servant that he was a follower of Christ. Later, he will receive the strength to no longer fear threats from the powerful of the time.

Fear is destructive, many people have been psychically, and even physically, destroyed by its influence. It can be the fear of being abandoned, the fear of not being up to the task, the fear of being persecuted, the fear of the next day...

In Psalm 27, David speaks of various fears that can affect us : fear of abandonment, fear of war and enemies, fear of persecution... but he proclaims with faith, from the beginning of this Psalm : " The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear ? The LORD is the sustenance of my life : whom shall I be afraid ?" (Psalm 27.1)

Listen to the voice of God

Let's take the time to listen to what God means. Perfect love drives out fear. Let God speak of his love for you.

Praying is easy. Talk to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example prayer : “Lord, I don't want to let fear rule my life. I choose to listen to your voice saying to me, “do not be afraid.” Help me to ground myself in your perfect love."

Praise God

To praise God is to show him our gratitude. Today, what are your subjects of recognition ? Take a time to thank the Lord.

Act today

Now dig deeper into what you have received. What can you do to apply what God has told you ? Write down the concrete actions you can take.

Honor the Lord

Our route for the day ends. Let us pray together to honor our God.

"Lord, you are the sustenance of my life : Whom shall I be afraid of ? Thine be the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, amen !"
