From survival to abundance

“Become numerous and take possession of the land...” Deuteronomy 8.1

After 400 years of slavery, the Israelites received from God's hands the act of possessing a fertile and lush land where they would finally be able to call themselves home. Until this day, everything they had received had come from their masters, the Egyptians. Slavery had blunted their will and their spirit of initiative, so God had to compel them to no longer depend on men and to turn to Him alone. Depending on others may make you vulnerable and limit your growth to maturity. When God led His people into the desert, away from the onions and leeks they had loved so much in Egypt, it was to force them to develop an appetite for manna, a food that only He could provide them ! If God takes away an old source of provisions from you, that does not mean that it was bad, but that He has decided to provide you with a new one. He has chosen to guide you on other roads and to meet your needs in a new way. When God makes a promise, He still keeps it, but you have to agree to no longer depend on others and trust Him alone. In the wilderness, the Israelites regretted the relative comfort of life they had known in Egypt, when that time was gone forever. They couldn't go back ! When God said : "Grow in number and take possession of the land..." His plan was to turn them from an economy of survival to an economy of abundance ! He wanted His people to give up the “milk” that they had fed by depending on the Egyptians, to feed on the “meat” that God was going to provide for them. Paul wrote : “I am not saying that we are able, on our own, to design something as if it came from us. Our capacity, on the contrary, comes from God” (2 Corinthians 3.5 KJV 21). If God is pushing you out of your comfort zone, expect to discover unfamiliar horizons and feel your heart tighten a bit, but this is the only way to get you out of the survival field and into that of abundance !
