Get out well shod

Put on all the arms of God so that you can stand up against the devil's schemes. Ephesians 6:11

Put zealousness in preaching the Gospel of peace as shoes on your feet. Ephesians 6:15

A historian recently claimed that the Roman sandal was the cornerstone of the empire's success. Indeed, the soldiers who were equipped with them could cover long distances without hurting themselves, skidding or getting tired quickly. In short, without these protective sandals, the Roman army could never have conquered such an empire.

When the apostle Paul mentions the shoes among the weapons that God offers us, he has this reality in mind. In his day, many walked barefoot and did not have good sandals.

"Only the passion for the good news of salvation will get you over the wounds you will encounter on your way."

The soldier's shoes were part of his equipment. And although they were not a weapon per se, they were essential to advance and win the battles.

Paul therefore urges Christians to wear the right shoes, that is, to be armed with zeal. Zeal is zeal, eagerness, dedication in the service of a cause or a person, or in the accomplishment of a task.

Above all, do not embark on the path of faith barefoot or poorly shod! Only the passion for the good news of salvation will get you over the wounds, obstacles and traps that you will encounter on your way.

In fact, it is only the extraordinary love that God has for you that can ignite you and trigger a zeal that nothing and no one can ever extinguish ! You will be able to advance on the land God has reserved for you, this land made up of all of His most incredible promises, victories and blessings.

So go out well equipped : don't forget your zealous shoes.

A proclamation for today

I want to be on fire with your zeal and arm myself with the right shoes you made for me, made to measure ! Renew every day in me your love and faith in each of your promises.
