Give hope

"His compassions are new every morning ... therefore I will hope in him ..." Lamentations of Jeremiah 3: 24

On July 26, 2016, the solar plane "Solar Impulse 2", piloted by Bertrand Piccard, landed at Abu Dhabi airport. It was from this very tarmac that his partner, André Borschberg, launched his first stage in March 2015. Solar Impulse 2 has just toured the earth (42,000 km) in 17 stages, using Only the energy of the sun ! The aircraft is powered by 4 electric motors powered by 17 248 photovoltaic cells arranged on wings of 64 meters of wingspan. The lithium batteries are recharged during the day, enabling the engines to be powered overnight in flight, before starting a new cycle the next day. A new day must recharge them for the flight to continue a new night and so on. Bertrand Piccard explains : "The sunrise gives us hope to continue".

"The night" is very dark for Jeremiah. He identifies with Jerusalem destroyed by the army of the Chaldeans. He weeps before God on the "ruin of the daughter of his people" (Lam 2:11). He is in great affliction (Lam 1: 9, 3, 1, 3, 19). Where to find help ? Where to draw energy to continue one more day ? "It is the goodness of the LORD that we are not consumed, for his compassions do not cease, they are new every morning" (Lam 3:23). So as the pilot, resuming hope to continue on seeing a new day stand up, Jeremiah has the assurance to receive for today a new energy. Also, he says : "Great is thy fidelity ! The Lord is my portion, says my soul ; Therefore I will hope in him." There will still be a reserve of compassion to "recharge his batteries" and also ours today.

Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg were able to walk around the world patiently, one day and one night after another, by a succession of hopes in every new day that allowed them to continue.

Moreover, the kindness, compassion, and faithfulness of God can give us, like Jeremiah, a new courage for today and the following night, and so on.

And then, we will soon "ask" us near Jesus !
