"Give me my soul of this day"

"Give us daily our daily bread" (Luke 11: 3).

When Jesus prayed to receive the bread of the day, it was not a matter of worrying about food and clothing. He knew that God was providing and that he was able to order a fish to open his mouth to give him something to pay a tax. He knew that God is the God who provides. Of course this prayer speaks to us above all of the natural bread, but I believe that this bread of which Jesus spoke was more than a natural bread. I think it was more than a revelation in the Word. I think it was a soul. Jesus wanted a soul. Jesus wanted to receive "the soul of the day". He wanted his soul, his lost sheep.

We should pray to get "our soul of this day". I came back from work with friends that evening, and one of them told me that he had gone for a walk the day before by a lake, when he saw a woman from far away limping. The Holy Spirit said to her : "She is here for you !". When talking with her, he felt that she had a problem with someone who was greatly angry with her, and that it prevented her from getting a complete cure. She cried directly that this person was her. She had never forgiven herself for a great mistake she had made. She cried and cried again, and had the joy of hearing the wonderful news of Jesus, the one who can bring us to his pardon, to the place where "there is no more condemnation" (Romans 8: 1).

How many people have been on our way to meet us ? Have we seen them, or were we too concerned about our activities ? A friend told me the story of a Christian who was on his way to a church meeting, and someone was asking for help. He apologized several times for being too hurried because he had to go to church. It was, I believe, the last night for this person, who really needed help that day. But he had been too busy... Lord, give me my soul of this day.
