Give them yourselves !
Matthew 14.16 - Jesus answered them : “They do not need to go ; feed them yourselves”.
Ask God to help you with your work, but don't ask Him to do it for you. It’s not a Bible verse, but it’s a saying that I like. Often, we rest on our laurels claiming that God does everything, is in control of everything and can do everything.
If it is true that God is in control of everything and He can do everything, it is wrong to say that God does everything. In certain situations, only the intervention of God and of Himself will be done, it is no less true that often, he will ask us to stand up and get down to action with His collaboration. It is quite obvious that God could do without our actions, but He loves and desires to work with us and through us.
Let us take a few examples : people are in need and lack the necessary. Many will say : "I'm going to pray for you," but how many are going to the local supermarket to do some shopping for these needy people ? If someone is unwell, ditto : "I'm going to pray for you", but how many are going to visit that person to support them, pray for them and why not do some housework ? A mother is in pain. Again, we will be willing to pray for her, but how many of us will offer to relieve her by babysitting her toddlers so that she can rest and recover ?
The Word of God tells us : "Whatever you want men to do for you, do the same for them, for it is the law and the prophets" (Matthew 7:12). If we meditate on this verse, I think each of us will change our attitude in many areas, don't you think ? We will thus begin to take action by asking God for all the grace to act as He would act. So if today we think about what we would like others to do for us and start doing it for them !
Good reflection.
