"Christ suffered, you also arm yourselves with the same mind" (1 Peter 4.1).
Here the apostle Peter has thought as a method of warfare as a weapon. How does it work ?
There are people who see the difficulty, trial, tribulation, as abnormal situations. These people think that God should make their lives easier ; they believe that God does not help enough, it is not normal that their way is too complicated. Their thoughts turned to their tests are negative, and make them even more unbearable situation. They are disarmed face their tribulations. That's why Peter calls us to arm ourselves thinking of the sufferings of Christ. Think of the sufferings of Christ, by the time we go through the test, it is a way of resisting the assaults of the devil who would at that time discouraged.
Think the way we go through, is under the control of God. Hunt of our mind the thought that this road is too hard, that we can not do, that God is no longer with us. Scripture tells us that God is always with us, with the test, he prepares the way out that all things work together for good to them that love God. Then you go through a difficult time, begin to arm yourself with the thought of the suffering Christ.
Remember that "Christ learned obedience through what he suffered" (Hebrews 5.
. As you go through the pain, think about what Christ learned through suffering. He learned obedience ! He still needed to learn obedience ? If so, how much more ourselves in need! Let us remember that we, too, at the school of the Lord. Sometimes God leads us in a difficult way because he work in us.
While Jesus has just been baptized, the Spirit led him to the desert. It will experience a time of loneliness and hardship, crowned by a triple temptation. Remember Jesus suffering and tempted in the wilderness is our best weapon to fight the despair and abandonment. Think of Christ through the agony of the cross, allows us to consider our sufferings with another look. It equips us for the battle against adversity.
Speaking to his young colleague Timothy, the apostle Paul gives this recommendation : "Remember Jesus Christ" (2 Timothy 2.
. There is, in this recommendation, a form of insistence by the Apostle to Timothy keeping his thoughts focused on the person and work of Jesus Christ, to be equipped to face difficult times.
A tip for today :
Think of the sufferings of Christ, and use that thought as a weapon to overcome in your own sufferings and trials.
