"Do not give what is holy to dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you" (Matthew 7.6).

 

Pigs were declared to be impure animals. The Israelites were expressly forbidden to eat pork flesh (Leviticus 11: 7 ; Deuteronomy 14: 8). The various names of this animal are used, in many languages ​​spoken in the world, to designate physically and morally dirty people.
The pig represents the natural man, the carnal man, the unregenerated man. He who completes himself in evil, defilement, and sin. Holy things, he despises them, he does not care, he gives them no interest. Jesus emphasizes it in this passage from the Gospel of Matthew. You may notice that they not only flout holy things, but they make war on those who love them! Jesus does not ask us to judge people, but to have discernment and wisdom in how to bear witness to sinners. Dogs and swine in this text are plurals, it is like to indicate to us that when they are in group, it is difficult to reach them.

The prodigal son at the bottom of his decline had only one desire : eat swine's food (Luke 15: 15-16). What misery when the fallen man has no other desire than to feed on filthy and filthy things, which sully him still more! When Jesus delivered the possessed of Gadara, it allowed the demons to go into the pigs grazing near this place (Matthew 8.31), as if to remind us that the impurity is a place of refuge for demons.

The saying : "Chase the natural change their spots" is echoed in the words of Peter : "It has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit, and The sowed thistle wallowed in the mire "(2 Peter 2:22).
This verse teaches us that we need something other than a new religion, that of a small exterior washing, as an apparent and superficial holiness ; We need a complete regeneration. We must be born again and be rid of our old nature. For a pig no longer behaves like a pig, it is not enough to wash, put a nice pink bow around the neck, it is necessary that his nature be changed. Certainly, it is humanly impossible, but God can do it, as Peter says, "We have been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible ..." (1 Peter 1:23).
