God always present

“In my distress I called on the Lord, I cried out to my God ; from his palace he heard my voice, my cry has reached his ears.” Psalm 18. 7

Life is not a long quiet river. Sometimes even, when we are in the joy and happiness of a pleasant and smooth existence, we find ourselves thinking that this is not going to last, that it is only a bright light in generally tormented weather. Because we know that a hard blow can come at any time - we have experienced it so often - and that bad luck always comes when you don't expect it. However, we must heal and free ourselves from this superstition which claims that happiness has to be paid for, under the pretext that it is neither deserved nor normal. The misfortune that arises is not always a note to pay. However, whatever it is, it is always too big, too heavy, too long and its faces are multiple : professional collapse, family separation, illness, mourning... And every time it hits us, we realize that we have just lost something, even someone, of which we had forgotten the importance or the beauty, the need or the necessity. We regret not having taken advantage of times of gentleness and peace, of not having said enough of our attachment, our love, our gratitude. Why then do we become aware of our possessions when we lose them ? Very often the psalmist enumerates his misfortunes and the turmoil he is in when he lists the obstacles he encounters, the enemies that strike, the friends who betray, the death that strikes. But at the same time as he measures his losses, he clings to what is permanent and to which we must open our eyes in order to cling to it as a salutary anchor : the love of God, His presence, His benevolence. and His support. In times of tribulation, to fixate on one's losses or sufferings is to increase distress, but to look to God is to find consolation. He remains steadfast.
