God is good

Do you despise the riches of his kindness, his patience, and his long-suffering, not recognizing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance ? Romans 2:4

The kindness of the Lord endures forever for those who fear him. Psalm 103:17

When we speak of God's goodness, disbelievers often argue : "If God were good, He would not allow so many humans to perish in earthquakes or other natural disasters." It can also happen that they blame God for all the tragic events that he allows : genocides, injustices, various atrocities... which are nevertheless due to human wickedness. Sometimes they question the very existence of God to appease an uneasy conscience at the thought of being held accountable for their actions.

Many, on the contrary, take refuge in the illusion that a good God will be benevolent enough to take into account their good works. They think God will find a way to save the whole world. They even use Bible verses to support this opinion.

Yet the truth is that God is inflexible in his justice and that every man, without exception, incurs his condemnation because of his sins. What the Bible says explicitly is that God, in His goodness, leads men to repentance, and even commands them to repent (Acts 17:30). But the truth is also that God, full of goodness, gave his Son that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

And that's not all. Every believer knows that God constantly acts toward him on this same principle of goodness. At this very moment, God exercises his goodness towards his children with the same intensity as at the moment of the cross when he did not spare his Son to save them. In his goodness he makes all things work for the good of those who love him (Romans 8:28), even painful trials. Moreover, he hears their most secret prayers and even their sighs, when they cannot express them distinctly.

May the Lord grant each of his redeemed to trust in him, whatever the circumstances, for his goodness is always and forever.
