God loves us

"I have loved you, says the LORD ; And you say : How have you loved us ?" Malachi 1. 2

It is very insolent this question posed by the Jewish people to God : "How have you loved us ?" Especially after the long period when the proofs of the faithful love of God for his people were continuous! God had heard their cries when they were reduced to slavery in Egypt and had delivered them miraculously. He had taken care of them during the 40 years of the desert crossing. While they had no power on their own, God had set them in the promised land by driving all enemies out before them. Over the centuries, the list of God's benefits to his people has been steadily increasing ; But in return he receives only contempt ! "How have you loved us ?" What hardness of heart ! They only looked at what they had lost since exile and forgot the grace God has just given them by giving them their country and their worship. Before so much ingratitude, God can exclaim : "My people, what have I done to thee, and how have I wearied thee? Answer me !" (Mich. 6: 3).

Today, we hear sometimes : "If God loved us, there would not be so much injustice, poverty ; There would be no wars ... "Such words are outrageous for God ! Can the unbeliever hold God accountable for the present state of the world when Satan is the prince ?

The great miracle known to all Christians is that God continues to love us despite our sins, despite our weaknesses and our failings. It is this great miracle of divine love that the redeemed of Christ present to those who dare to question the love of God ... because they do not know Him.

"When we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5: 8). Can there be a greater love than that of God who gives his own Son to save his creature and who continues to love man despite his outrages ? A love without beginning or end !

God could not love us more than he did ; He could not give us more than he gave us ; And he continues to show us his love, day by day, by showing us the riches of his grace. Glory and gratitude to the God who loves us !
