God loves variety (1)

"A star differs from another star in glory." 1 Corinthians 15. 41

"After each of you has received a gift of grace, use it for each other as good dispensers of God's varied graces." 1 Peter 4. 10

It is quite evident that God, the Creator of the whole universe, has done all things with a great variety, from the infinitely small to the infinitely great. One would not cease to observe this diversity of body and desired forms of God. It is the mark of God's finger. An ear of wheat is not an ear of oats, a man is not like a bird or a fish, much less one of the celestial bodies which also differ so much from each other. God loves variety, he has shown it by creating colors, shapes, odors, sounds ... ; who could count all these human faces, these flowers so varied in color in form and perfume, to differentiate so much and so many songs of birds ? Dazzled, we can only cry out, "My God ! that You are great !"

In the Church too, the variety is remarkable !

Jesus chose twelve disciples, so different from each other (Simon Peter the extrovert, James and John the impulsive, Andrew the reserved, Philip, the pragmatic, Simon Zealot the nationalist ...). We have no reason to want to standardize everything in the Church when Jesus did not do it ! Paul seemed to have a difficult speech, while Apollos was a great orator. The first had "planted", while the second had "watered" (litt. Given to drink); Barnabas was a "son of consolation, of comfort, of encouragement," according to the translation of his nickname given by the apostles.

The assembly of Antioch, the first known to have been established outside the Jewish sphere, included brothers of very different origins but living in harmony, for together they served the Lord (Acts 13: 1-3 ). It will become the starting point of the work among the nations.

Paul takes as a model the human body and its various members to teach that the unity of the body and the diversity of the gifts of the Spirit are both essential to the proper functioning of the whole (read 1 Cor 12: 14-31) .

To be convinced of the beauty of this desired diversity of God, we must contemplate the "table of honor" of Romans 16 : twenty-five persons, ten of whom are women, no one is like any other.

God loves variety, it is to his honor and for our enrichment.
