Good for hell !

Job 6.14 – He who suffers has a right to his friend's compassion, even when he would forsake the fear of the Almighty.

In the Christian world, there is a very surprising attitude that has challenged me for several weeks. Christians display great zeal to save “souls” ! They go to meet people who are suffering, don't let themselves be put off by their condition, whether they are tramps, pimps or gangsters... The important thing is to save these poor lost souls! We do not count the time spent, the energy and the help. This is all excellent and part of the mission of the church.

But how many of these Christians have in their family or friends people who are suffering ? People perhaps who deeply love Jesus but who at some point succumbed to sin out of weakness. Or others who for one reason or another have turned away from the faith (sometimes out of disgust because the discourse is far from everyday reality).

This surprising attitude that I want to talk about this morning is : the complete rejection of these people. No need to show compassion, love, if it were possible we would stick a label on them : “good for hell”.

Also, today, I ask myself the question : what motivates me to reach out to others ? Is it the interest I have so much in “my ministry” or is it love ?
