Growing as a Christian

Dear brothers, I spoke to you as if you were still babies in the Christian life... 1 Corinthians 3: 1

Some people have received Christ but have never attained spiritual maturity. They have been in church all their lives, and yet they never became mature Christians. They are still considered "spiritual children" and "babies in Christ". They know little about the scriptures. They have little desire to pray and carry few marks of a Christian in their daily lives. saying, "I will decide to do better, I will gather all my will and revise my way of life" is noble, but futile. A corpse might as well say : "I'm going - out of effort - out of this coffin and become a living man again." You need power outside of yourself. You can not overcome the habits and chains that bind you. You need outside help. You need Christ.

The Bible speaks of a bridge of faith from the valley of despair to the high hills of glorious hope in Christ. He says where we are, but beyond that he indicates where we can be in Christ. Now, of course, you will not be fully mature until you are in the presence of Christ, but you should grow up every day as a Christian.

Prayer for the day

Lord, work through me today, so that I may mature as a Christian and know better so that I may know your perfect will for me.

Billy Graham
