You put more joy in my heart. Psalm 4. 8
To the man who pleases him he (God) gives wisdom, knowledge and joy. Ecclesiastes 2:26
Happiness is for tomorrow
It is the title of a documentary which traces the illusions of an era. In 1950, at the end of the Second World War, progress became the remedy for all the ills of the past. It makes you dream of a society where the happiness of living is in the possession of all kinds of goods. But these goods, this comfort, which should make us happy, where do they come from ? Useful or futile, many are the product of technical progress which generate more problems than they solve. Pollution, depletion of natural resources, unemployment, accumulation of waste that we do not know what to do with, etc. No, there is no more hope on this side. We no longer say : "We will do the same thing tomorrow, there is still a lot left !" (Isaiah 56.12).
But God does not abandon us on this too real observation. He has a plan to save us and give everyone "a future and a hope". Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth to announce good news : free salvation for those who receive it from God as a gift. Why free ? Because Jesus took upon himself all of man's foolishness and disobedience ; he endured the judgment before God. By faith the believer then receives new life, peace with God, and sure promises. He awaits "the blessed hope, the manifestation of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13). He participates in the sufferings of the human condition, but with God he knows happiness, already today.
