Happy is the man who...
He is like a tree planted near a stream of water... Psalm 1.3
… Is rich, who is in good health, who has an interesting profession, who is famous... We could lengthen this list at leisure. Would we end up finding the real niche that makes a man happy ?
So many Croesus, famous and beloved stars, people who have succeeded in their life and who are not happy for all that ! They are often looking for a "more" to perfect their happiness... without finding it, because very often their motivations remain selfish.
The Bible presents us with another alternative : to find pleasure in the law of the Lord, that is, to imbibe and obey the mind of God. This is God's great ambition for us. So let’s read, reread, meditate on the pages of the Bible so that the Spirit of God can transform our thoughts and harmonize them with those of the Eternal God.
The psalmist compares one who is thus transformed to a tree planted near a stream of water, near the source of God’s life. It is not at risk of wilting, its foliage remains green and it produces beautiful fruits that it can happily and generously offer to those who approach it. There is more pleasure in giving than in raising.
For the benefit of the life received from the Creator, this man imitates the Master of Life and fully rejoices him. So his own life finds meaning, for everything he does is successful.
