The apostle Paul will say : "For it is not to baptize that Christ sent me, but to proclaim the good news. And this, without resorting to the arguments of human wisdom, so as not to empty the meaning of Christ's death on the cross" (1 Corinthians 1:17). He will say to Timothy : "Avoid the empty speeches and arguments of what is wrongly called knowledge" (1 Timothy 6:20). You can easily get lost in an evangelism filled with arguments, which will bring nothing. I have lived this for a long time.

Like Ray Comfort, Paul knew how to refute the arguments : "because he refuted with vigor, in public, the arguments of the Jews, and showed by the Scriptures that Jesus is the Messiah" (Acts 18:28). To be able to refute and demonstrate is excellent, but again, it must be founded and inspired by love. If we do not know how to control ourselves, we will turn the good news into a dispute of words. "That's what you have to remember all the time. Solemnly recommend before God to avoid arguments of words : they are of no use except to the ruin of those who listen to them" (2 Timothy 2:14). I once saw a young man who wanted to debate about science. I had matured and decided to walk in love, letting myself be inspired. He accepted the Lord, was saved, and joined our church.

Some people will take pleasure in seeing you being angry and losing your temper, confirming that you are no different from the people of this world. We must never enter carnal and intellectual argumentation, because God does not act like this. If we use arguments, these are born in the Spirit that is made acting through love.

"Which of you is wise and smart ? May he show his works by good conduct with the sweetness of wisdom" (James 3:13).
