Have you only tasted ?

Wednesday 12 May 2021

Taste and see how good the Lord is ! Happy is the man who seeks refuge in him ! Psalm 34. 9

Then he (Jesus) said to me : To him who is thirsty, I will give freely to drink of the spring of the water of life. Revelation 21. 6

Have you only tasted ?

An atheist professor was finishing his presentation. He invited the listeners to ask questions. An elderly man stood up and stood beside the lecturer ; then, taking an orange from his pocket, he began to peel it. The speaker begged him to ask his question, but the other, without answering, continued to peel his orange. He then ate it, quarter by quarter, without saying anything. when he was done he turned to the lecturer and finally spoke :

- Here is my question : Tell me, was this orange bitter or sweet ?

- How do I know ? replied the annoyed speaker. I haven't tasted it !

- Ah ! resumed the elderly man. How can you talk about Christ if you have never tasted the flavor of it ?

The apostle Peter, addressing young converts, asks them if they have "tasted that the Lord is good". The goodness of the Lord is "tasted" with the heart, and not with the head. Many believers, unable to hold a conference on Christianity, know their Lord. They "tasted" that it is good.

Likewise, a thirsty man having drunk a large glass of water will know that the water is refreshing, better than the chemist capable of discussing at length on the composition of the water molecule ! You have to taste it to find out !

Jesus calls : "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink" (John 7. 37). Experience going to him. You will then know, having tasted it, that it is good and can quench your thirst, quench your heart's thirst.
