Having a child in a difficult time

"A man of the house of Levi ... took a daughter of Levi ; And the woman conceived and bore a son ; And she saw that he was handsome ; And she hid him three months. "Exodus 2: 1, 2

The order of Pharaoh against the Hebrew slaves in Egypt was terrible : "Every son that shall be born, cast him into the river" (Exodus 1:22). The king of the country is afraid of the growing strength of the Hebrews and wants to limit their number. What an anguish for Amram and Jochebed, the parents of Moses, the little boy who has just been born ! A birth is a source of joy and this child is beautiful. Of course, every newborn is beautiful in the eyes of his mother ! But this baby has a special beauty : it is "divinely beautiful", that is, "beautiful for God," marked with the seal of God (Acts 7:20). God prepares him for a great future. We must save it, we must not allow violence to prevail over faith. We must not obey a murderous human policy, which is opposed to the divine will. Without fear of the king's command, with determination and faith, the parents of Moses hide it for three months (Heb. 11:23).

But when it is no longer possible to hide it, the mother obeys the order of the king ... in his own way : Jokébed places his son on the Nile, but well protected in a watertight basket. She has the courage of faith. His confidence in God is strengthened by trial. She did not abandon Moses to the Nile or to the care of her older sister Marie, hidden among the reeds to watch the basket carefully. She put it in the hands of God. And God is going to give back her child in an extraordinary way.

You may be suffering from conflicts, troubles, poverty ; The present may be difficult and the next day uncertain. And you expect a child, and you are afraid for his life, for his future ... Trust the Lord to take care of this little one who is also his : "Like a shepherd he will feed his flock ; By his arm he will gather the lambs and carry them into his bosom; He will gently lead those who nurse" (Isaiah 40:11).

Whatever the country we live in, the future is not happy, there is violence and immorality. And it is in such a world that our children are born. But we can count on our Lord, without fear of men. God will reward our trust in Him.
