"He does everything perfectly"

"[Jesus] again left the territories of Tire and Sidon, and came to the Sea of ​​Galilee through the land of the Decapolis. So we bring him a deaf man who speaks with difficulty, and we ask him to put his hand on him. He pulled him aside, out of the crowd, put his fingers in his ears ; then, with his saliva, he touched her tongue ; Looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him : "Ephphatha, that is to say, Open unto yourself." Mark 7. 31-34

Many people become deaf as they get older and painfully feel the handicap that marginalizes them ; however, they still have the opportunity to express their needs orally. Alas, there are people of all ages who are even more disabled, unable to hear or speak.

The deaf-mute that the Lord meets is part of this category and does not have, of course, the sign language that exists today. He can not hear of the good news that Jesus brings ; and even if he knew it, he can not clearly express his need. Fortunately, local people lead him to the one who is the only one who can give hearing and speech.

The Lord does not ask him anything, but uses his own sign language and pronounces the powerful word that will make the deaf-mute use his senses : "Ephphatha, that is to say, Open up". Astonished, the witnesses of this miracle declare : "He does everything perfectly : he even makes the deaf hear and speak the dumb" (v. 37, Colombe).

Even today, when Jesus saves a sinner, he is also doing very well with him because he makes him able :

- to hear God and to speak to him : it is communion with God ;

- to hear God and to thank him : it is praise ;

- to hear God and to speak to unbelievers : it is evangelization ;

- to hear God and to speak to believers : it is edification ;

- to hear others and to console them : it is encouragement ;

- to hear the suffering of men and to speak of them to God : it is intercession.

When the Lord does one thing, He makes it beautiful. All things considered, this should be true of all who follow the example of Jesus, the perfect Servant in his service.
