He had nothing to him

Sunday January 2, 2022

(God said) : The world is mine with all that it contains. Psalm 50.12

You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ : for you he became poor when he was rich, so that by his poverty you may be enriched. 2 Corinthians 8. 9

He had nothing to him

Jesus is the Creator and, as such, the whole world belongs to him. "In him everything was created... ; everything was created by him and for him" (Colossians 1:16).

But when he came to this world, he was born into a poor family. His first bed was a manger where his mother laid him down, because there was no room for them in the inn.

As an adult, he preached to crowds, borrowing a boat from a fisherman to use it as a platform (Luke 5, 1-3). Surrounded by hungry crowds, he accepted a little boy's picnic to then satiate a whole crowd (John 6. 9). For the payment of the tax, a fish from the lake provided him with the silver coin which he did not have (Matthew 17. 27).

When he presented himself as king in Jerusalem, he was riding on a colt belonging to someone else (Matthew 21. 1-11). He celebrated the Passover and bade farewell to his disciples in a room made available to him by a friend (Matthew 26. 17-19). Before crucifying him, they stripped him of his clothes, and the soldiers divided them among them (John 19:23). Dead, he was lying in the tomb which belonged to a disciple, Joseph of Arimathea (Matthew 27. 59, 60).

Jesus, humble and poor, was accessible to people of all ranks and conditions. He didn't despise anyone. He lived in poverty for us, then he gave his life on the cross, in order to enrich us with a wonderful salvation : forgiveness, peace, and a future of happiness near him. Do you personally know the grace and love of Jesus Christ ?
