He was a faith(s)

"Beloved, when I used all due diligence to write to you of our common salvation, I found myself in the necessity of writing to you to exhort you to fight for the faith that was once taught to the saints." Jude 3

Next week is Christmas. In many countries, a part of the population will remember the birth of the Lord, this first visible manifestation of the incarnation of the Son of God : "God was made manifest in the flesh" (1 Tim 3:16). In the places of worship and through the media many sermons will recall this birth. But how many will speak of it as a single event, overwhelming, miraculous : God becomes man by taking the form of a little child who has not lived ?

We know that the date of December 25 does not correspond to that of the birth of Jesus. It was not until the fourth century that this date was chosen, mainly in order to substitute it for pagan holidays that were customary at this time of the year.

This does not prevent us from praying that those who will speak of the birth of Christ will bring out all its consequences, for believers as for men still without hope.

The first need to remember the love it took the Son of God to come into the world in such humility, and the second to know that Jesus came to save them and give them the hope of eternal life which they miss. What an opportunity to invite them to believe in him and accept the salvation that is still offered to all !

Jude urges his readers to "fight for the faith that was once taught to the saints". The verb he uses means to fight with all his strength and to the end. Faith is here all Christian truths and blessings received by faith.

How do you respond to Jude's invitation to fight so that the teachings concerning the birth of Christ are clearly exposed ? Of course, by prayer.

Let us therefore fight with prayer, especially this week, for the Holy Spirit to lead all those who will preach about the birth of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Pray also that the Holy Spirit will prepare all listeners of these messages to receive them by faith and to live them.
