Heaven, according to the Bible

Thursday February 3, 2022

(Jesus answered the repentant malefactor) : Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise. Luke 23. 43

(The Apostle Paul said) : I have a desire to go away and be with Christ, which of many is the best. Philippians 1. 23

Heaven, according to the Bible

In the Bible, several images evoke the terrible reality of hell : "the darkness outside" (Matthew 8. 12), "the lake burning with fire" "the second death" (Revelation 19. 20; 20. 14).

In contrast, here is the description of heaven, in eternity :

- "A river of water of life, clear as crystal, flowing out of the throne of God and of the Lamb" (Revelation 22.1). There one is not thirsty, unlike those who are in the lake burning with fire.

- "The city needs neither the sun nor the moon to light it; for the glory of God shines on it, and the Lamb is its torch" (Revelation 21. 23). There is light.

- "God himself will be with them. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, and there will be no more mourning, nor outcry, nor pain, for the first things will have passed away" (Revelation 21. 3, 4). God is there, death is no more, we cry no more !

Jesus, the Savior, fills this place with his presence.

Today, let's hear the promises of Jesus for those who believe in him:

- "Whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never be thirsty, and the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up into eternal life" (John 4. 14).

- "He who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8. 12).

- "He who believes in me will live, even if he dies (of physical death) ; and whoever lives and believes in me, will never die" (John 11. 25, 26). For them, no second death, but eternal life. - Even today, Jesus Christ gives this life to those who believe in him.
