Hide or recognize
He who hides his transgressions will not succeed, but he who recognizes them and forsakes them will be compassionate. Proverbs 28.13
It is never easy to recognize that you have made a mistake. Strictly speaking, let us admit without too much difficulty having made a mistake and apologize with this truth : "Everyone makes mistakes", as if that changed the nature of it.
But as long as we apologize and justify ourselves, we cannot be justified. If we are to move in the right direction, we must begin with a sincere admission of our responsibility and a request for forgiveness from those we have offended. In the parable of the two sons, proposed for your reading, the most visibly guilty understood that, whatever our fault, it is first of all God whom we have offended and that it is first of all his forgiveness that we have. to claim.
What a joy to discover that he awaits no excuse or explanation, that he immediately opens the arms of his mercy to us. I almost want to say that for him the process of forgiveness is easy, he keeps hoping for the opportunity. But we would be wrong to forget the price. To welcome us in this way, he had to become man and go to the crucifixion !
Will we continue to want to hide our mistakes by adding to them those of lying hypocrisy ? We would not deceive anyone, especially not God, and we would deprive ourselves of the only source of inner prosperity !
