Jesus said to him : What is written in the Law ? How do you read ? Luke 10. 26

You search the scriptures, because you think you have eternal life in them, and they are the testimonies of me. John 5.39

How do you read ?

Jesus asked this question to a doctor of the Law, that is to say a specialist in the Old Testament, first part of the Bible. Jesus only asked him : "What are you reading ?" but : "How do you read ?" Multitudes have read the Bible, and still read it, but not always in the right way. Let us ask ourselves the question : How do I read the Bible ?

- Like a religious book that presents a Christian morality, useful to observe ?

- Like a historical book that gives valuable information about the past ?

- Like a scientific book ? She is never that. But it does not contradict science, because its aim is not to provide answers to the scientific problems that arise.

- Like a bed a literary work, admiring its style ?

All these avenues for reading have their interest, but are incidental. The Bible is the Word of God, the message of a God who loves his creature, and wants to have a real relationship with him.

Read the Bible as God's message ; it will enlighten your inner being to reveal to you without complacency who you are before Him. You will see in the Gospels that Jesus was the perfect manifestation of divine love... until he died on the cross for his enemies. If you believe this essential message of God's love, you will have read the Bible the right way !
